Entitlement To Practice...

A registered surveyor shall, (but to the extent only of his particular qualififcations) be entitled to practise as a surveyor throghout the Federation.

It shall be the duty of the person in charge of each university or higher institution of learning in the Federation having a faculty by whatever name called, at which there is held a course of training intended for persons who are seeking to become registered surveyors under this Decree to furnish the registrar, not later than 31st day of March in every year, a list of the names, and such other particulars as the council may specify, of all persons who attended any such courses at the institution in question at any time during the last preceding year.

 

 

 

 

Examination Guidelines...

Examination guidelines for pupil surveyors

GENERAL

  1. Project must cover a wide spectrum of survey work – not more than 2 projects from one category or aspect of surveying
  2. Candidates must be seen to have worked in at least 4 different locations
  3. All surveys must be controlled din scale and azimuth in accordance with Survey Regulations.
  4. General Information must be provided for each project namely:
    • Size (perimeter)
    • Length (Controls, Route Survey etc.)
    • Purpose
    • Location
    • Scale
    • Date of execution
    • Project supervisor etc.

SPECIFICS

1. Perimeter Survey Only: Not less than 5 hectares
2. Perimeter/Details survey: Not less than 3 hectares (As built / Detail Survey)
3. Perimeter/ Details/Topo Survey: Not less than 3 hectares
*NO PROJECT SHOULD BE LESS THAN 3 HECTARES
4a. Route Survey: Not less than 5 kms (Without cross sections)
4b. Route/Pipeline survey: Not less than 3 Kms (With cross sections)
5. Control Survey
  1. Hortizontal: Not less than 5 Kms
  2. Vertical Not less than 3 sections (Geodetic) Not less than 10kms (ordinary)
  3. Combined: (Hor. & Vert.) Not less than 3 Kms
  4. GPS Controls (Dual Frequency) Not less than 10 Stations
6. Layout: Not less than 30 plots
7. Dispute Survey: Not less than 5 hectares
8. Mapping (Digital Conversion) Must have some level of revision (updating)
9. Re-establishment: Not less than 10 beacons
10. Rig/Well Fixing: Not less than 3 locations
11. Hydrographic Survey: - Echo sounding Not less than 2 nautical miles or 2sq. Kms or its equivalent @ 25m interval
12. Setting out (of Roads) Same as in route survey with cross-sections
13. Right of Way Survey: Same as in Route Survey with cross-section
14. Longitudinal profile: As in pipeline survey
15. Comparative analysis of Coordinate obtained by GPS And Traditional Methods As in GPS controls
16. Boundary Tracing: 10 boundary points or 20 kms (project to be endorsed by all concerned parties)
17. Astro or Astrofix methods of Position Determination Not acceptable on its own except it is part of a project
18. Street Guide: To be treated like digital mapping. Must be in a built –up area (urban centre); showing schools, buildings etc. and covering not less than 4sq.kms.
19. Deformation Monitoring: (First stage is the establishment of controls on which monitoring will be based) a) Large Engineering structures(s) Over 15 episodes b) Small structures(s) Over 10 episodes
20. Base Map: Must cover not less than 4sq.kms.
